Mr. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar of Udaipur

The Maharana Mewar Public School was founded in 1974 under the aegis of my grandfather, HlH Maharana Bhagwat Singhji to fulfill the educational needs of young Udaipur in a fast-changing world. Its mission, at inception, was to create students with a global outlook who were indian at heart, and who would subscribe to the highest human values the heart can subscribe to, which are the guiding values of the House of Mewar: self-respect, self-reliance, respect for mankind and service to the community; values that have guided the school’s functioning ever since.

Today, when I introduce the school to guardians who are looking for the best possible opportunities for their wards, I am able to write not only as a Trustee of the school, but also as an ex-student. I studied at The Maharana Mewar Public School from standards Nursery to 3rd and although my memories of this times are merged into the happy mist of childhood, I do remember quite clearly going to school, enjoying recess much more than classes, tearing around in the playing fields, and vividly, getting into trouble for ringing the school bell out of turn. No-one treated me differently because I came to school from a different side of the Tripoliya gate than anyone else and I certainly was oblivious to anything other than the pressing concern of an impending math test. The school treated me the same as any other student, and the school uniform made everyone the same, as it is meant to do. I received a sound grounding in the basic fundamentals of school learning at The Maharana Mewar Public School that have stood me in good stead ever since.

Since my time at the school, the class structure has been streamlined, with standards Nursery - 5th being moved to The Maharana Mewar Vidya Mandir to be able to give more concerted attention and space to the higher standards from 6th – 12th. Every year we hope to update, revise and better the facilities available in the school, improving the student experience and preparing them for a world that is changing rapidly and which requires educational institutions that are similarly dynamic and fast-adapting.

Instruction at The Maharana Mewar Public School is not confined merely to blackboard learning in the classroom but extends across the entire school experience, into extra and co-curricular activities including sports, drama, public-speaking and other cultural involvements that allow students to engage with the wider world and to develop well-rounded and socially well-adjusted personalities. Many people give examples of clay and potters when talking of schooling, and it is an apt analogy indeed, but if I were to continue the comparison, I would say that The Maharana Mewar Public School hopes not only to make sound pots that can bear water, but exemplary ones that can one day stand on a pedestal in an art gallery.

I have happy memories of my time at The Maharana Mewar Public School/ The Maharana Mewar Vidya Mandir, and today, when I write to you, I am able to transmit the same trust to you that my parents reposed in the school authorities, in its systems and in its facilities.
